Joan G Edwards - the painter's eye
A prized volume on Joan Edwards' bookshelves was Geoffrey Grigson's poetry anthology 'The Poet's Eye' with 16 lithographs by John Craxton, published in 1944. One might wonder about a possible influence of the style of this artist, born in the same year, on the visual language she developed later. Whatever the truth of that, we use this oblique reference to Grigson's Shakespeare-derived title to present two paintings in which she incorporated the seeing eye into her work.
